Webi 4.0 and BW Hierarchy Key display

Former Member

We have recently installed Business Objects 4.0.2 and have some questions about Webi 4.0 and reports based on SAP BW via BICS connection.

1. Is there a way to display the key of hierarchy in WEBI 4.0. Currently I only see the text for Cost centres.

Is there a settting that we need to change to control the display Key/Text.

2. Also Can we control the hierarchy level that we want to display.

Currently I do not see any control, It just displays the entire hierarchy.

What if my users do not want my users to see the details of the lower nodes of hierarchy.

Hey Suman

1. You can view the whole hierarchy by Keys, but than you need to change you setting for InfoObject display in 3 places:

1. In BEX choose dispaly as KEY

2. In RSA1 in InfoObject BEX proprties display as KEY

3. In InfoCube "Provider Specific Setting" Display as KEY.

Instead of these , you can just put in WEBI additional column cost center's KEY.

2. The Hierarchy Level I think you can control via a BEX setting. In characteristic properties - > hierarchy > Expand to Level.

there you can choose to which level expand the hierachy.

Aharon, Thanks very much for the detailed explanation. We have done all of that and still unable to control the level. By the way this works if we go through Crystal reports for Enterprise 4.0.

Hi,

To answer your second point "Also Can we control the hierarchy level that we want to display?"

Yes, in the webi query panel, put the dimensional object in the results area, and click the 'member selector', and select the levels and leaves you want returned.

Thanks very much Henry. But I am not seeing anything when I go to "Member Selector". My list is empty and I cannot see any members or leaves. That is infact my root issue here. But when I execute the report, I see the data in hierarchy on the report output. But it is weird that i cannot see anything in the "Member Selector" window. Any ideas please??

Thanks again

Hi Suman,

I also ran into this problem and as a workaround found that if you refresh on the Data Preview to return some records and then click on the "Member Selector" you will find the hierarchy and be able to select the level only or with children/descendants.

Hope this helps.

Hi Laksh,

Thanks for pointing the location for "Scope of Analysis" button.

Interestingly that button is disabled in my Query Panel.

Looks like a configuration problem or Security related.

Any ideas here please?

Also are you able to select between Key and Text display for hierarchy? Is that option available in 4.0.

Thanks for your time and response

Hi Suman - You cannot control scope of analysis when using a BW Query as data source (either via BICS or BAPI). Also Union etc. has been disabled as those actions are handled on the BW side.

you can control hiearchy levels in scope of analysis option by selecting the desired level till which you want hiearchy to be drilled
