File system repository permissions problem

Former Member

HI all,

We have configured a file system repository using W2K Security manager and also configured the user mapping.

But the permissions are not being inherited.users are able to see all the content though they dont have permissions to view them.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi,

what does show up when you open the details for a file or folder im the given reposity? A permissions editing dialog (similar to the permissions for PCD) or some traffic lights that indicate the permissions but have no editing means (should be the latter one)? Are you sure you have done the user mapping properly (i.e. every user has mapped his own windows user)? Have you double-checked the Windows NTFS permissions?

Hi,

We double checked the user mapping and windows NTFS permissions.

We are seeing the traffic lights indicating the permissions.

Actually when we setup the file system repository it asks for a userid and password. what do we need to give in there? we gave the userid and password of the user with all permissions.

Is it right?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

actually you need to setup two users:

The first one is used for the mount service (configuration "network paths" in CM configuration). This user needs access rights for the windows share itself.

The second user is the user that actually accesses the files after the repository has been mounted. This user should be individual per portal user and mapped using the portal personalization functions.

Where did you define the user you mentioned in your post? With "all permissions" do you mean all permission on NTFS level?

Hi Dominik,

We HAVE set up two users. The first user is the user in (Network Paths) configuration who has complete access to all folders and files on the external repository

The second user has to be the user who logs on to the portal using user mapping.

Right now, even without doing user mapping, the user is able to view all folders and files, and makes no difference even after doing user mapping.

The user we mentioned who has all permissions (NTFS Level) is defined in the Network paths configuration.

Please suggest.

Thanks,

Did you get a fix for this issue? I am running into something of the same problem.

Hi david,

I read something that might help:

"The permission set for a system principal under Content Management->Utilities->System Principals will overwrite the permissions assigned to the mapped Windows operating system user.

For example, you have a Windows user that only has read permission to a Windows file share that you access through the portal. You have mapped your portal user to this Windows user.

You would expect to only have read access to the file share in the portal, but since you are a system principal you have full control to the share."

Check if that is the case for you.

Hope that helps,

Yoav.

System principals have been removed for users. Now they see nothing, error log shows that they can not see the system that runs the repository. Even with full control they can not see it.

Everything is set, what am I missing?
