functionality of sort key

I want to know the Functionality of sort key and how it is used for reports extracting , give with transaction codes for report making with help of sort key

Dear ,

Sort Key will use for reporting

Ex: in your Master data if you use 001 - post date sort Key when you run the standard report it'll display the data based on Posting date. If you maintain 009 - Purchase Order it'll sort the report based on Purchase Order.

and Second important thing is that based on Sort Key system will update Assignment Field (either posting date or Purchase order no.) in the Transaction.
