split valuation

Hi Gurus,

One FG material was created for which split valuation was not activated, the material is being used like this for the past 5 to 6 years. Now the client wants to activate the split valuation. The system is not allowing to activate valuation category for the material as lot of transactions are open & these have to be closed. Is it advisable to go for split valuation now & what will be the effect on valuation.
