Upgrade from BI 4.1 to BI 4.2

Hi Experts,

I'll upgrade my BI4.1 to 4.2. I can't change my Oracle database, but just I upgrade the Oracle database from 11.2 to 12c. I change also my VM server. The OS is the same.

I read the admin guide. so I need to install the same version in the target (4.1) and I will import the CMS database and then I can upgrade.

What is the problem if I install the 4.2 in the target and then import the cms database ( BI4.1) to my BI 4.2 ?

Regards,

Philippe.

Francois,

BI 4.1.4+ fully supports Oracle 12C, see screenshot from PAM. You need on Bi 4.1 SP4 or higher.

Once you have confirmed that you are running BI 4.1 SP4 or higher, you can use easily update the ODBC driver for the CMS.

The Steps to follow are:

  • STOP the SIA
  • Upgrade the back-end CMS db from 11g to 12c
  • Go back to the SIA > Configuration TAB > Specify
  • Update the connection settings for the CMS from Oracle 11g to 12c
  • Validate connection working
  • START the SIA
  • Once SIA started you can also update the Audit ODBC connection as well from 11g to 12c

You can NOT back-up you CMS using BI 4.1 and then connect with BI 4.2, it will NOT work. The CMS MUST be connected to the exact same BI 4 build version, you CAN NOT mix versions.

Ajay

Ideally it should work. You can move/copy the CMS Db from 11g to 12c and do the upgrade. As a caution run pass your DBA first and see if there is any feature that is being deprecated or removed in Oracle 12c.

We have moved db schema from Oracle 11g to 12c and so far didn't saw any major issues.
