Syslog error 10054 in Management Console

Hello,

after installing the sneak preview SAP WebAS 6.40 (SP9) on MAXDB 7.5 in VMWARE 4.5, i got one error in the syslog of the SAPMMC.

It's called:

SAP Basis System: Operating system call recv failed (error no. 10054)

here an excerpt from the developer trace:

[Thr 3232] Thu Mar 17 23:41:41 2005

[Thr 3232] JControlMSMessageFunc: receive command:6, argument:1213679940 from Message Server

[Thr 3232] Thu Mar 17 23:46:58 2005

[Thr 3232] JControlMSReadMessage: NiPeek() returns -5 NIETIMEOUT

Sometimes the j2ee server process only starts "some processes" and after a while all processes are running.

But during installation of Content Managment i was waitung for about 40 minutes - nothing happend!

I was looking in the forum for that error message, but i couldn't find anything ( I dont do anything with SAPGUI). The system adds after a couple of minutes the same error message to the syslog again.

Thanks for any advice

Christian

There is no such parameter: TcpMaxDataRetransmissions in WinXP.

Could you please advise which parameter should we set?

Suddenly I got a 404 error - Page not found

when trying to access our portal.

Looking at the Management Console, we have the same Syslog error 10054.

the management console shows all the instances to green

we would like to know Why this happened?

the portal was running ok

Hello,

now i have found a solution for the problem described:

While communicating over TCP, Windows CE Stress may lose the connection with the device and show error code 10054. The resulting log files may have contents like those in the following paragraphs.

In the harness log:

TcpWS::recv: failed to recv transport header with error code 10054

TcpWS::send: failed to send transport header with error code 10054

In the device log:

TcpDev::send: failed to send transport header with error code 10054

TcpDev::recv: failed to recv transport header with error code 10054

To resolve this, set the value of the TcpMaxDataRetransmissions TCP parameter on your development workstation to 8 or more. For more information, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base articles 170359 and 314053.

So this is a KBA for Windows CE, but this was also the solution to my installation on Windows 2000 Professional.

I have increased the value to 12 - and all problems are gone.
