Getting error while extending intrcompany customer to other com code

Hi,

We need to expand customer master data with the data relevant to Sales area data for Spain (Sales Org xxx) but before saving the record we got an error about exceeding lenght of Street 4 field (which is maintained in General Data tab) in customer master.

Error: Street 4 must not longer than 30 characters(address not maintained locally; we can't save the master record.

I checked in customer master but there upto 40 characters we can enter and i tried to create with 30 characters it is allwoing me to save but my doubt is

1. Why system is not allowing me to save with 40 characters same time this customer already there in other country with 40 characters.

2. This error is coming for only spain country not for all other countries?

please let me know why this error coming..
