BEx 3.x content in BEx 7.0

Former Member

Hello

I have activated HR-content, also the appropriate BEx content (workbooks, queries, query views, WAD templates).

Unfortunately I am not able to operate these BEx 3.x objects in 7.0 environment.

Any ideas how to solve this issue?

Thanks

BEO

Hello Arvind

Query Designer: Query has content version 3.0/01

Info: Cannot process Query "Number of Entries" with 3.x Query Designer

BEx Analyzer: The appropriate workbook to this query has content release 1.2/02.

Message: Do you want to open the 3.x workbook for upgrade? Click "ok" then this text will be shown:

Diagnosis

An error occurred while reading the metadata associated with this query in the workbook. This metadata is stored in two hidden repository sheets: SAPBEXqueries and SAPBEXfilters. The error may have been caused by corrupt metadata in the hidden sheets. It is also possible that these are BW 2.x workbooks that were opened directly in the BEx Analyzer from SAP NetWeaver 7.0.

System Response

Since the metadata was not read correctly, it is possible that the query in the workbook was not upgraded correctly. The upgrade process continued, but there may be consistency issues, which you should check for by refreshing the workbook. If you are working with a BW 2.x workbook, the workbook may not be upgraded at all.

Procedure

First try refreshing the workbook in the 7.0 Analyzer to check whether the query refreshes correctly despite these errors and whether these errors can be ignored. If the query refreshes correctly, the warning can be ignored and the workbook can be saved.

If the workbook does not refresh correctly in the 7.0 Analyzer, check whether it refreshes correctly in the 3.x Analyzer. If errors occur while refreshing the workbook in the 3.x Analyzer, the workbook is probably corrupt. You should then investigate the cause of this in the 3.x Analyzer.

If the workbook refreshes correctly in the 3.x Analyzer, another possible cause could be that the Excel workbook or worksheet is protected. Try unprotecting the worksheet or workbook and upgrading it again in the 7.0 Analyzer.

If the workbook was created using 2.x Analyzer, save the workbook again in the 3.x Analyzer and try opening it in the 7.0 Analyzer.

If none of these solutions resolve the problem, there may be other compatibility issues between the 3.x and the 7.0 Analyzer. In such cases, check whether you can make adjustments manually with the 7.0 Analyzer to solve the problem.

Hi

From your last post, it seems that you are trying to open a 3.5 workbook in BEx Analyzer 7.0, then only it asks for the upgradation.

Just try opening the workbook in 3.5 Analyzer.

I think then it should not give any error.

Regards.

Dear BEO ,

It seems that you are opening 3.x query in 7.0 anlayzer. This is the reason you get this error.

you have to open in 3.x analyzer.

If you will open the query in 7.0 analyuzer, you wil get this popup and if you click on yes and save it, the query/workbook

will be upgraded to 7.0 and then you can continue using 7.0 tools.

Thanks to all!

Last question: Is therre a need to do this "upgrade" procedure in any system (development, test and last production)?

Thanks for your help - thereafter points will be given.

Dear BEO,

Yes, you can follow the sequence, ( D-> Q -> P)

Upgrade in D and then you can transport them,,you need to just save the query in New version of BEx tools.

Okay

I have hopefully a last question.

Must I open the workbook first in 3.x analyzer and thereafter the appropriate query?

What's about the query views and WAD templates.

In which order must I open all these BEx objects to in BEx 3.x in order to save them in BEx 7.0?

Example:

1.) workbooks

2.) query views

3.) queries

4.) WAD templates?

Thanks again

Hello BEO,

There is no sequence.

If you want to upgrade workbook, open workbook in Analyzer(7.0)

and queries , open in query designer(7.0)

and for Web Templates, please refer to below note : One report is mentioned in the note, that should help.

Thanks Arvind

There is also HR content Web Template, like this one: 0TPLS_0PA_C01_Q0103_V02

Content Release 3.5/03

When opening the Web Application Designer 3.x I got a failure message:

"The selected template contains HTML fragments, non-supported items or is not designed to be edited with the Web Application Designer. Use the functions "Upload to Server" or "Download from Server" and edit the Web Template in an external HTML editor. You can also edit the Web template in text mode by selecting "Text mode" in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen if you are already in text mode, you can exit by closing the Web template"

This is very strange as I am already in a 3.x Web Application Designer.

Do you have any idea why this message is created? Before opening this template I have already migrated the 3.x queries to 7.0 queries which are also data providers for web templates.

Thanks again

...and how do I upgrade 1.2 workbooks?

I get error messages when opening these workbooks with Analyzer 3.x.

BEO-

We activated HR and deliberately did NOT bring across the queries and workbooks. It's been our experience that SAP's business content queries are inappropriate for most businesses unless you've implemented an ASAP or standard business process. I would simply set the SAP stuff aside and focus on the data model. The HR data model with its time dependent master data can be a serious pain in the posterior.

However... you should be able to open the BW 1.2 queri in the Bex 3.x Query Designer, rather than Bex Analyzer. If that does not work, there were upgrade tools prior to that, but it's been so many years I don't recall them.....

Perhaps this might help

Also, for migrating Bex 3.x objects into Bex Analyzer 7, Prakash Darji's blog is an excellent starting point:
