material type with different characteristics

Hi..

I have one scenario there is one material with different characteristics i.e.colour blue green my client do not want to create different material type for each char. how to map this scenario.I tried with material type KMAT but not working.

Hi,

Just because different characteristics of color ieu2026..red, blue, green, yellow & black .Do not go for creation of new material type for each. You can have ONLY one material type where material will be created & maintained different characteristics of color (red, blue, green, yellow & black) by using batch management where you can sub-divide material stock based on material characteristics.

OR

With one material type for that one material, go for variant configuration by having characteristics of color red, blue, green, yellow & black.

To create batch management please follow the step provided in this following link

Or Simply you can follow these steps

1. Create a class with Class Type-023 in Trxn CL02

2. Create Characteristics as per your requirement i.e, Color in trxn CT04(i.e Red Blue green etc..)

3. Assign these characterisitcs to the class you have created in CL02

4. Assing this Class to the material master thru classification view with Class type 023 which populate all the characteristics you have assigned to the class you have created.

Then your material comes under batch management

Hi,

For variant configuration, use material type KMAT to create material or customize a material type ZMAT( copying from KMAT material type) & then create material.

Hi Ketan,

For this to work your materials should be batch managed.

Create a class with Class Type-023 in Trxn CL02

Create Characteristics as per your requirement viz, Color, Size etc (in your case color) in trxn CT04

In these characteristics you can define either as numerical (if they have any numerical values) or character format depending on your requirement.

Assign these characterisitcs to the class you have created in CL02

Assing this Class to the material master thru classification view with Class type 023 which populate all the characteristics you have assigned to the class you have created.

Now you can enter the values in the classification fields in the material in the transactions you execute.
