Adding New Group to user during User Self Registration

Hi,

I am working on EP 7.0.The new user who registers in Portal is assigned two default groups "Everyone" and "Authenticated Users".I added a new role R1 to user in Group Authenticated Users that consisted of only limited access.After full verification he is supposed to be assigned a diferent role R2 programmatically.

I have done all this but the problem i am facing is am unable to remove user from the role R1 or Group authenticated.

Can we add another new group to the user so that he will be assigned during registeration in addition to Everyone and Authenticated Users.

Pls suggest.
