I am running BOXI XI 3.1 on Windows 2008 R2. Which database has better performance for running WEBI reports? The BOXI server is a single server, and I have an option of using a remote MS SQL 2008 R2 database, and connecting through ODBC, or using a local MySQL database. Which of those two options is likely to perform better? I could even do a remote MySQL if that would increase performance.
Hi Rick,
Like Julian mentioned, there are several factors that contribute to performance. It is important that your installation can scale to the required number of users and reports, your network can handle the data traffic, and reports are developed to optimize a quick display of the information.
Until your objects contain millions of rows of data, the database platform is mostly irrelevant. If your objects are tuned for performance properly, then any database can handle the job. However, I would avoid placing your reporting database on the same server as XI. It is a poor production architecture.
Best,
-Michael

Hi Rick,
As you must agree, the question is too open to have a valid answer.
Having a reporting database locally installed along with the processing servers is a bad idea.
Even if you are talking about CMS database, the answer is: it depends. Your hardware, network connection, number of objects, etc. etc.
Regards,
Julian
