Sneak preview: How do I uninstall MAXDB instance?

Former Member

Hello, I am having big problems installing the Sneak Preview.

I tried to install the complete package on my PC. However, the first installation of the portal failed. I assume because of memory problems. Now I have bought 2 gig of memory and installed the memory. Then I tried to continue installation, but this failed.

Then I tried to remove everything. Used SAPUNINST.EXE. That seemed to go okay, but now when I try to reinstall the J2EE + MAXDB, I get the message that an instance of the database still exists. I cannot remove, nor can I reinstall the MAXDB...

Is there any way to clean this mess up? Or do I have to consider formatting my PC?

Hi Wdwin,

If you installed MaxDB DataBase Manager then open Database Manager and select the instance and right-click the mouse , the select connect option.

then select instance and select action tab and select offline option.

after the instance is offline then select instance tab and select drop option.

Now your instance will be deleted from the system

regards,

Hari

It doesn't solve my problem...

If I stop the instance, and then remove it, it disappears from the list. But then, if I restart the Database Manager, the instance is back... I still cannot use the SDBUNINST -all option.

Depending on your OS there are files left in /var or /etc on Linux/Unix while on Windows you likely have registry keys left - you should always uninstall using the uninstall program in the SAPDB programs folder.

Linux/Unix:

/var/opt/sdb (file)

/var/spool/sql (directory)

/etc/opt/sdb (directory)

Windows:

search your registry for "SAP", there is a key under SOFTWARE for SAPDB.

Hi Edwin,

probably your instance hasn't been dropped yet.

You could try the following from the Windows commandline:

dbmcli -d <database_name> -u <dbm_user>,<password> db_drop

If the above statement returns an 'OK', then you can proceed with the SDBUNINST -all.

Hope that helps you.

Kind regards,

Roland

I have uninstalled the J2EE again. Then I manually deleted all directories (after stopping all services on my machine), where-ever I could find them. After that I cleaned up the registry.

I am fed up with it. Although I can start the installation again, it just keeps 'hanging' at the point where the J2EE server should be started. Lot of messages/answers/posts on the forum about that, but none that solve the issue.

It should be possible to install the sneak preview on a local machine (that's the whole point). But frankly, it is crap! I give up... After two weeks it has been enough.

Finally got it...

I hope that this time I can get further than the "Start J2EE server"...
