GP Erroneous fix help

I have an application that uses an extensive guided procedure process. In some instances, users in offshore environments will encounter errors while running through the process maybe from some sort of latency issue or something similar, possibly while connecting to the backed systems such as ECC and CRM. However, when this happens, the process goes to the erroneous state and all of the work done by the user is lost since the process has to be initiated again. My question is what is the best way to correct this? Is there a way you can catch these errors and then before going to an erroneous state, stop the process where the error occurred and then put it into the UWL? I don't want to have the use redo all of the process again, I want them to be able to pick up where they left off at the point it went to the erroneous state. Any help would be great.

Thanks in advance.
