Unable to view drivers after installing DataDirect on a Windows 2003 server

Iu2019m having problems refreshing crystal reports using Infoview. The reports are stored on an Edge BI server; I keep getting an error message u201CFailed to open the connectionu201D.

I want to create an ODBC connection on the server with the same name and parameters as what I have on my desktop. However I canu2019t see any drivers listed, only for SQL server. Iu2019m running ODBC executable file found in Windows\SysWow64 which I understand is 32 bit though my OS (Windows server 2003 ) is 64-bit. Do I need to install Oracle Client on the server and ensure the path has an entry pointing to the client?

Can anyone kindly assist me? Iu2019m new to BOE and have to develop reports for a customer.

Thanks

Hi Seb,

I can tnsping the oracle server from the Edge BI server and I do get a very fast response. However when I try to refresh reports, I still get the error "Failure to open report".

As a reminder; we have oracle 10g db on a separate server and I have installed oracle client on the edge BI server which is running on windows 2003.

Any assistance is most appreciated. I need to urgently present reports.

Hi,

check the Database information of the CR via the CMC. Maybe you have to do some adjustments here. Make sure the DB settings from the CR are met with your Oracle information. (identical SID, correct user/pass, etc.)

Seb,

I have looked at the TNSNames.ora and it correctly points to the Oracle server. The PATH is correct, contains an entry for the oracle client location....however I still can't refresh reports. Any ideas on what could be wrong.

Evn on the Edge BI server, I can't refresh reports.

Thanks for your assistance.

Hi,

please check via SQL Plus and via "tnsping SID" if you can contact the DB on OS Level.

Thanks and Regards

Thanks Sebastian for the tip. I'm new to Oracle yet I need to cretae reports for a client. Kindly advise on how I can edit the TNSNames.ora file, I tried Notepad but it does not open the file. What entry should I add to point the Edge BI server to the Oracle Db server? Is it possible possible to send me a dummy TNSNames .ora file?

Many thanks for your help.

Hi,

the TNSNAMES.ORA file needs to be configured for the oracle Server. Best would be to asko your DBA to sent you a correct one. Usually the one from the Server is configured proper.

Hello,

Yes, the client still needs to be installed.

Don,

I have installed Oracle Client on the Edge Series server but I'm still not able to refresh reports opened with Infoview. The reports are saved on the Edge server.

Strangely though, I can refresh the same reports (ie enter different parameters) when I open using Crystal Reports.

In a bid to resolve the problem, I want to create an ODBC connection using system DSN but I cannot see any Oracle drivers from the ODBC panel on the server despite having installed DataDirect5.3

What could be the problem.

Kind regards

Hi Serah,

I moved your post to the BOE/EDGE Admin forum. Since it works in CR designer it's a configuration issue now for Edge.

If you can't see them then either the Oracle Client is not in the PATH statement or for some reason the DD installer failed and did not report any error's/issues to you.

Try doing a repair install of the DD drivers.

Thanks Don

As I was reading through the forums I realized that thereu2019re different DD drivers for client and server installations. I had installed the client version on the server and probably this is the reason it is not working. I have browsed the DataDirect site several times and the link provided through which one can download server versions does not work. Could you kindly point to the correct site?

Regarding the path, it correctly states the location of the oracle client.

Thanks

Hi,

if you want to connect to a Oracle DB from your Windows EDGE Server you dont need the DD driver. Just install the Oracle Client in the 32Bit Version corresponding to your Oracle Version. Afterwards configure your TNSNAMES.ORA file and you should be fine.
