Does any know of a method to convert the html data stream to a PDF format so it may be returned to the browser for printing?
i created an Help Service which can convert the current Web Application State to Pdf and it displays it automatical in the browser window. Charts and all the other stuff is also converted.
This is only on-top of a complex PDF Framework which offers features you request for example.
Batch support. Load balancing. Stylesheet support. Report Books. There are Convenience Classes in ABAP which support Template ID in PDF-Bytestream out. Sent PDF as mail. publish to Portal. Information Broadcasting integration etc.
the advatnage of this solution is that the conversion is performed on the Server and not on the client which means you need only one license, and not for each client...
i hope this helps.
best regards.

hi Mike,
yes and no.
In General my solution has multiple layers the on-top layer uses Broadcasting technology which only works with 3.5.
The base technology is running on a 3.0 Environment. From the technolgy perspective it is possible to implement all features also in a 3.0 Environment. But in 3.5 it is much easier.
From my opinion an Upgrade from 3.0 to 3.5 is really easy because there is no significant technology change.

Hi Kai,
I'm also looking for easy and automated solutions to send by e-mail web reports in PDF format. I've read a lot of information but your solution looks really like the one I'm looking for. I've also read SAP presentations (e.g. SAP NetWeaver 2004 innovation) where they say that PDF will be fully integrated in the broadcaster but unfortunately we are not there yet.
Will it be possible to send me more detailed information about your solution?
Cheers,
Peter Willems

Hi Mike,
You could always try an external application such as CutePDF. It converts the HTML page into a PDF file and saves it on your disk drive.
It's free and you can find it at http://www.cutepdf.com/Products/CutePDF/writer.asp
The only disadvantage is that it has to be installed on the local desktop.

Leif

Hi everyone,
We did a very nice thing with our cockpits by making use of an (not free) external application as well: ABCpdf (firma: WebSupergoo). We have put on our web pages a button that converts on the fly the web cockpit to a pdf that can be used directly to print for instance.
In any cases, you need to consider an external application for the solutions proposed in HowTo papers are not fully satisfactory - this is my experience.
Cheers.

No further navigation would be required. This would only provide a PDF snapshot of the query for printing purposes.

Export to PDF will be part of BI 7.0. I haven't seen any standard classes available for this.
You might want to look at the web log 'BSP/HowTo: Generate PDF Output from a BSP.'
/people/sap.user72/blog/2004/11/10/bsphowto-generate-pdf-output-from-a-bsp
You can try the same with giving the input as HTML stream.
With BW 3.* you can try exporting the data as XML format and then applying XSL-FO for importing as PDF format. I have never tried this myself.
Thanks.
I have seen this white paper. It requires the users to paste the query URL's into ADOBE. I was looking to have a print link that called a class/method in BW that executes the query, converts it to PDF and then returns the PDF to the browser.
Thanks,
Mike
