How to insert a new record in an ODS.

I have the following scenario: 2 Records are added into an ods thru an infosource. If they are of Type 'A' & have 200 & 300 as their respective quantities, I have to create a new row with type 'S' and the quantity as 500.

Plus data from other ODS has also to be added to the new record.

How can this be achieved?

I am Thinking to do it thru update rules, by writing an Insert in Update Rules. Is it valid to add data into ODS like this? Please suggest.

Thanks & Regards,

Sumita

    Hi,

You have to consider an ODS as a standard table. This means it has a key section and a datafield section.

When you process update rules it will do the action as you specify (overwrite/addition) for your key figure but always related to a key.

In your example this means that if Type is part of the key. S will be a new key and it will be added by default to your ODS. When you upload a record containing type A it will either overwrite / add to the previous value.

    I hope this helps you,

    kr,

    Tom

    Hi Tom,

'Type' is in the Key Part, but if I try to insert the record in an ODS while a differnt record is alreay being added thru update rule it is not done. Any ideas.

    Thanks for your help.

    Best Regards,

I do not completely understand you. Can you please explain the problem in more detail? What are you exactly trying to do?
