Hello Gurus,

Why posting to GL account has functional area when the GL account is not assigned to any functional area in the master data. Kindly help me to understand more on this.

Thanks in advance

Hi Ravindra:

Please check whether functional area has been set as mandatory in field status or posting key used for GL postings. Hence the document gets posted with functional area . Please check GL account field status in OBC4...additional account assignment and posting key ob41. Another thought might be that functional area has been assigned in Cost center master data KS03 if Cost center is assigned in OKB9 to the GL account you are using for posting or manually giving and it is getting derived from there.

Hi Atif,

I have checked both the field status. In OBC4 functional area is an optinal entry and in OB41 the functional area is suppress. Kindly let me know if there is any other way to analyse why this GL is taking XYZ as functional area where I don't see functional area assigned to GL. By any chance is this linked to profit center? Even in OKB9 it is not assigned. This GL is revenue account. So there is no cost center for this.

Please check KA03 for the cost element

Through cost elment category functional area will come by default.

Even in KA03, the functional area is blank. Nothing has been assigned in this.

Have you checked the cost center master through KS03?

In which cost center I have to check? Because this is revenue account and there is no cost center in the posting.

In cost center master data, I can see that there are profit center assigned to it along with functional area. But this being a revenue account, there is no cost center in it. Is there any chance that because of profit center they are using while posting is showing this functional area from cost center?

Dear Ravi,

There can be a lots of reasons, it depend from the case, the context and posting scenario

func area can be entered in master data of the following objects:

- G/L account

- or Cost element

- Cost center

- Orders (Order type , Internal orders , sales oder ...)

- WBS element

- Project ...

AND During the postings, teh system derive the functional area from the master data of the assigned objectsd

Could please check again the process and the objects impacted

Dear Tarek,

The functional area is not assigned in any of the area. But still when viewing T.code KE5Z, for a particular GL account, func area is showing. I checked it in Cost Center master, cost element, GL accounts etc etc etc..... Is there any other way where i can find out the link? THis is related to profit center line item.
