handle duplicate data records in dtp

hi all

we have created process chains for our master data loads in development system.

for most of the master data objects ( attributes & texts) DTP's we haven't selected handle duplicate data records option in dtp.

so we are seeing our process chains fail because of duplicate data recods error.

now my question is

when should we tick this key in dtp

if this key helps to avoid duplicate data records error then why haven't sap not given this key enable by default

I am confused to which all info objects i should enable this handle duplicate data records key becoz i am not sure for which master data there is a possibility of having duplicate records.

Is it suggested to tick this option for all the master data infoobjects (characteristics) ?

If not why?

regards

krishna

    Hi,

It completely depends on us whether to set up this indicator or not.

    1. If you carry out full load every time

    2. If you are carrying out delta, same master data object is getting modified and Infoobject or attributes are not time dependent but changing.

In above two situations you can check handle duplicate records key.

Since your PC is failing regularly you need to definitely take a call on this.

You can do it in DTP or in start routine you can write ABAP code to sort and delete duplicate adjustcent.

    Thanks and regards,

    Kiran

    Hi,

This is a flexible feature that SAP has provided. this is mainly used for error handling and data quality.

If the indicator is not set and error handling is deactivated, the request terminates once data records with the same key are detected. If error handling is activated, data records that have the same key are written to the error stack of the DTP.

If during your data quality measures you want to make sure that the data packages delivered by the DTP are not modified by the master data update, you must not set this indicator.

It should be us, who will decide if this indicator has to be set or not, which again depends on the requirement and design.

    Regards,

    Sudheer

    hi ,

    I aggree with Sudheer.

The option of Handle duplicate key is optional. We use dTP not only master data but also for transactional. In general we cannot have duplicate transactional data .so we need not check this option.

Its all depends on the requirment and data coming from source system either to check this option or not.?
