Can BODS be a alternative for PI?

I will be using BODS 4. 0 as ETL/data integration/data cleansing tool. Can it be a alternative for PI as a integration tool?

Yes or No. Why?

I heard BODS is not used for Outbound scenarios. PI should be used for outbound. Is that true?

    Hey -

First understand that both are different product of SAP services. SAP PI is also very robust and creates some kind of structures are XML to IDOC and vice yea its true Inbound/Outbound.

in some kind of Adapters JMS,MDMPI etc..PI is always best suited option, but again it depends on clients choice and we also have make a current lanscape consideration before using it. In a nutshell it is kind of pipe or middleware which helps to converts the data in such a format which can be understandable by source and target both. as name suggest PI - process Integration, it is more into process conversion.

In BODS which is new line product ..very much flexible .. as SAP was using LSMW for migration earlier, DS is having much more capabilities for doing so.moreover it is a platform which mainly supports for Data Integration and Quality. So as per my opinion it could be same in some features with PI but serves the different purpose.

    hope that helps
