IBASE VS PRODUCT

Hello All,

Can you please clarify this scenario not able to get clear scenario after going through many documents and forms

Can we identify Warranty on the product or do we need to configure IBase also?

For example :Car is a product which as VIN number for unique identification.When the sales order is created VIN number is specified and Warranty can be Given based on that.Do we need to still configure IBASE in this scenario.

I am trying to know why we need to create IBASE when warranty can be determined by Unique number given in sales order.

Or if someone can explain me IBASE with Scenario it would be great
