Dear SAP users,

In our project there is 1 HPUX-IA server in which I have to install ECC,EP,CRM,BI & BW.So first I have created mount points as follows for ECC system (TRD):

/oracle/TRD

/oracle/TRD/102_64 (oracle_home dir)

/oracle/TRD/client (oracle client installation directory)

/oracle/TRD/sapdata1..n (Data files)

and other like this.

Now I am going to install EP system (TRJ) and created one mount point /oracle/TEJ .During installation of this system again it asking for Oracle server installation although it is intalled in the system already.

Please suggest me ASAP.and what is the reason behind this and how to resolve as I dont want to install oracle server 2nd time.

Regards,

Sunny

Hi,

Now I am going to install EP system (TRJ) and created one mount point /oracle/TEJ .During installation of this system again it asking for Oracle server installation although it is intalled in the system already.

There are 2 methods for installing multiple SAP installation on a single hardware box.

1. Install Database instance as MCOD (Multiple component oracle database).

2. Install Database as a separate Oracle Instance.

During installation sapinst as for DB SID. If you gave existing DB SID, it will install it as MCOD. If you gave different DB SID it will extract the DB installer in "/oracle/stage/102_64" and you have to install oracle software (in oracle home "/oracle/TEJ/102_64") at the mid of SAP installation.

Have you gone through the installation guide ? Details are mentioned in the guide also...

Hi,

I have choosen different DBSID (same as SAPSID=TEJ).This time during oracle installation it is taking previous oraInventory directory which is inside of /oracle/TRD/102_64/oraInventory.

But as I am going to install the oracle server once again in a different home directory, why is it taking the previous oraInventory dir?

This is Oracle's way of telling you that you didn't properly read the installation guide.

Otherwise you would have found a small notice telling you how to edit oraInst.loc file.

Hello,

These notes will help you -

Note 350251 - Creating a New or 2nd Oracle SID with runInstaller

Note 98252 - Installing two Oracle databases on a host

Thanks

Hi,

I have checked the Snotes you mentioned.I followed the process.

As per SNOTE 350251 , I have changed oraInst.loc file and point the oraInventory location to the /oracle/<NEW>/102_64.

But still now it is not creating the new inventory under this <NEW> ORASID.

I am using Oracle 10.2

Is it any database related error??

No, the problem is not related to the database version. 10.2 is OK.

What I would say, please read twice, thrice and then perform the steps.

Thanks
