Dear Readers,
In the KM search iviews, there is a property "Path to Root folder for Search". If I give the path as folder1/folder2/folder3, does it search for documents starting from folder3 to all its subfolders or from folder1. Also, When I use this property, do I need to set the "Default Search Scope" to folders? Can someone give me a clarification on this.
Thanks,
Mandar
Hi Mandar,
your question gives the correct answer in itself.
If you do not specify a "root folder", the search iView will ask TREX for all it has.
If your default search should be limited to certain folders, you need to set the "Default Search Scope" to folders and then specify your desired root folder.
If your default search should be limited to certain indexes, you need to set the "Default Search Scope" to indexes and then specify the desired indexes.

Hi Karsten and Prakash,
Thanks for your replies. Is it true that if I set the "Default Search Scope" property to INDEXES and specify the desired folder, I can prevent the users from navigating above the root folder I specify in the iview. By doing this, I can prevent them from navigating to system folders that could harm portal operations. If this is true, that means I can set "Path to folder" property with "default search scope" as INDEXES.
Thanks,
Mandar
Hi Mandar,
If the default search scope is set to Indexes the basic search will go through the indexes but when the user clicks on advanced search the user has the option to select the folders and search from there.
I think you can change this by removing the folder search option from advanced search screen in the User Interface option.
I haven't done this myself but i think you can do that.

Prakash
In the KM Search iview, when I set the property "Path to Root folder for search", is it necessary that I need to set the "Default search scope" property to FOLDER and not INDEXES? If I set it to INDEXES, is it going to affect my search results?
Thanks,
Mandar
