How to assign a different factory calendar for cycle counting

Hello - Is it possible to assign a different factory calendar for cycle counting than the factory calendar for the plant? To explain, we have assigned a 5 day work week calendar to our plant. This is because Purchasing and delivery dates operate on a 5-day work week. But cycle counting will occur 365 days a year and, therefore, requires the use of a factory calendar that operates on a 7-day work week.

For example, if I configure CC Indicator A to be counted once per year, using the 5-day work week factory calendar the interval between the last physical inventory and the due date of the next one is only 248 days. If I could use a 7-day factory calendar, the interval between the last physical inventory and the due date of the next one would be 365 days.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

Thanks

Hi Susan,

The factory calendar is assigned to the plant for which the inventory movements are being executed. Hence, it is not possible to create/assign a separate factory calendar just for the cycle count since other goods movement needed by the business to function occur on the same plant

If I may ask, what would be the actual business requirement for the inquiry?

Kind regards,

Hi delo celo - The business requirement is to count a group of materials, say "B", once per year. Because of using a 5-day work week calendar, the "B" materials will be counted every 248 days, as opposed to every 365 days. Because the cycle is shortened by 117 days, the number of "B" materials that must be counted per day increases.

To make sure we are clear, the interval in cycle counting is derived based on the number of counts to be conducted within a year. If I want to count once per year, based on the 5-day work week, there are 248 workdays in a year. That's how the interval is determined.

They want to use the 5-day work week calendar for purchasing because they want the delivery dates to be based on that. But for inventory type events, even goods receiving and issuing, they would like to use the 7-day work week calendar.

So, what I am understanding you are saying is that there is no way to use 2 calendars in the MM module simultaneously - one for purchasing and one for inventory management. Is that correct?

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I appreciate it!

you cannot have 2 plant caendars.

What do you expect to gain if you would see 365 in cycle count? a year is a year, no matter if you count work days or calendar days.

if you use calendar days, then SAP would plan a count eventually for a Sunday, but you dont need to follow this proposal

if you use work days, then SAP will not restrict you to create inventory documents on a Saturday or Sunday if you want.

Hi Jurgen - It's a little more complex than that because we're using a custom MICN program and smoothing out the materials over the interval so that only a portion are entered onto a physical inventory document a day. We are using the formula: #of A materials / interval = number of materials to be counted daily. Essentially, we wrote a program to smooth the data. Using a shorter interval means that we count more materials per day - and we either finish the cycle counts earlier in the year if we count on a daily basis OR we can take Saturday and Sunday off each week and finish within one year.

Thanks

in that case you need to adjust the formula in your Z-program, it has to consider the calendar settings for the calendar that is assigned to the plant
