BW Datamart

Hello,

I created a Data mart in BW and have a few queries.

1. Both Open Hub Service & Bw DataMart Interface can replicate or distribute data to either external SAPBW & non-SAP systems. When would u choose 1 over the other?

2. Can Master data be used as infoprovider for Bw Datamart to redistribute within?

3. An ODS can redistribute to another Cube / ODS but can an ODS redistribute back to itself, although I am not sure when this would be required.

Kindly give some clues for me. Thank you.

Ernesta

    Hi Ernesta,

hope my answers are clear ...

1 - InfoSpokes do transform BW in a Open Hub, capable to distribute data to external sys. There are even other ways to integrate sys ... but this should be the most important at the moment (e.g. without XI) Data MArt Interface gives you the capability to exchage data within SAP sys (and I would say different SAP BWs)

2 - Since BW 3.0 Master Data can be used as InfoProvider, and this is a revolution ... Data Distribution of MD (within BWs) can be done using DataMart Interface even in BW 2.x, if I remember well, using the function "export data source"

3 - Yes an ODS can feed itself ... Just create a new Update Rule based on InfoSource 8<ODS_NAME> or ODS <ODS_NAME>. Normaly I use to create a GEneric DataSource based on Active Data Table ... hust to prevent the problem to handle ABR records (those coming from Change log): I do prefer AIM in this case!

    Hope it helps
