Upgrade from SAP B1 2005B PL 43 to SAP B1 8.82

Dear Friends,

As we know that Ramp-up of SAP B1 8.82 is slated for October 17, 2011 and nominations for ramp-up will open soon. So will it be worthwhile waiting for upgrade of SAP B1 2005B PL43 to this new latest release with respect to the services needed from SAP side for the "System Health Checkup" and challenges handled in Ramp-up or "Early Adoption Program"? What can be the best decision at this moment for upgrades?

Hi Narottam.....

Darius suggestion is absolutely right.

We should not trust Ramp Version for Client Places...

You can test this Ramp up at your end....

Thanks for sharing the idea. But, is the "System Health Checkup", which is needed for SAP B1 2005 version, available from SAP if I choose the upgrade to 8.81?

Hi Narottam......

When you upgrade your System then System it self checks the Required applicability for the database to be upgraded into the Next Version. If any problem it will give you the error/warning while checking...

Do that first in Test Environment......

Thanks for your replies. But I have run the "Inventory Valuation Checkup" script on the concerned company database, and the Database is candidate for the Inventory valuation Check-up service.

As far as my knowledge is concerned, the mentioned service was available till "September 2009". What are the present options?

Hi,

I think you need escalate this to SAP marketplace, just create a support ticket for IVC. The valuation fix normally takes time and you will be required to upload your DB. Basically, this fix will be conducted by SAP team and as what I have experienced before SAP has their own special tool in calculating the inventory variances.

Dear Darius,

Could you please share your experience for the case when the customer's SAP B1 Company Database is online, and it is changing continuously in the upgrade period? We can execute the upgrade on weekends, but how SAP end IVC services will be executed in this situation? How do they deliver the service exactly?

Hi Norattam,

Sorry for the late reply. Here is the exact process(as far as I can remember)

1.) After creating a sap portal message, they will investigate first and after that they will ask you to upload your latest database file via SFTP or direct upload. Direct upload will only work if your DB size is less than 1gb if not then use SFTP for this(compress your DB and check if its less than a gig or not.)

2.) SAP will notify you once a sample recalculated database is already available for download in same SFTP/Link folder where you uploaded database.(from here you will need to check and review the changes made by SAP)

3.) Then look for the IVC report (excel format)and feel free to ask them if you have questions. For further information on the IVC report and the live fix please look for SAP Note 1368909

4.) As for actual update, we gave them a copy of the latest bak file Friday evening and they gave it back to us around Saturday o Sunday.(I cant remember the exact Date) but I am sure, SAP gave it us before Monday

Thanks..

Best Regards,

Hi Narottam ,

For me,I prefer staying in the lower version right now( 8.8 or 8.81) since its more stable than 8.82. i think it will normally take few months to fix the beta patch(8.82) to run smoothly. I am sure,a lot of new features will be implemented. So, better to start testing your 2005b version to 8.81 before upgrading to 8.82..

Darius
