Room Content Maintenance

Hi All,

I've managed to create some custom collaboration rooms using my own template, workset, content (including initial CM content). All works fine but I ran into a problem when modifying a room’s content. The problem arises when you like to change the content of the template associate to a particular room. For example, after creation of the room, you would like to change an iView parameter or add a different iView to a page instead.

Changing content (TemplateContent/TemplateSpecific) is the easy part but the actual room is apparently not affected by these changes (even though delta links are used throughout the process). To my knowledge there is no way to make these changes available to already exciting rooms other then to delete and recreate the affected rooms. Of course, this is not something you'd like to do on a productive system (nor on a development system for that matter). If this is truly the one and only way, I find I it a major design flaw with could limit the use of collaboration rooms in a real life portal environments (you really think the content of a room will never ever change again? ;). Please let me know if you know a way to circumvent this issue.

Portal version: and Knowledge Management & Collaboration: (NW04 SPS05 Patch 2).200408011027.

Any suggestions on this would be highly appreciated!

    Hi Frodo,

SAP was aware about the lack on changing iViews and pages of existing rooms, so with EP 6.0 SP2 Patch 5 they introduced the room parts concept. The room parts are worksets that can be added and removed to existing rooms.

If you want to see all room maintaining features check this link:

Also, here a link to room parts administration documentation:

    Hope this helps,

      Hi Erwin,

Thanks for your response. I get your point, to certain extent, but you have to agree that it can be a cumbersome development process especially if you’re picky (like I am 😉 and want the room exactly they way you want it to be. As you mentioned, it takes a lot of iterations, but of course that's the price you pay for not using the out-of-the box templates. However, no matter how elaborated you do your testing, I'm convinced you sooner or later get yourself in a situation in which you'd wish you could make a change to existing rooms.
