Crystal Viewer for legacy app. under W7

Does anyone know of a stand-alone Crystal reports viewer which can handle input via selection formjula, other formulas and parameters?

I have a Delphi 3 app with CR10 reports/Paradox, which is running into serious problems running under Windows 7. My hope is that if I can get a viewer which is W7 compatible, it's going to be a lot easier to replace the viewer interface than update the app and viewer to be W7 compatible.

I've looked at Logicity which would probably be OK apart from the interface being only through Parameters.

No such thing for your issue. Only option is to upgrade. See the wiki [Crystal Reports v. 9.1 to 12.x ; VS .NET Runtime Distribution & Supported Operating Systems|https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=56787567]. Don't get hung up on the .NET part. The supported OS would be irrespective of the SDK used... You do not mention if the app is using the VCL or RDC...

Recommendation:

Obtain CR XI R2A - call sales at 866-681-3435

Read [this|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/80c191b8-6664-2b10-498e-e1295146891f] article if the app is using the VCL.

Note that the VCL has not been updated since version 10 of Crystal Reports and any features introduced after CR 10 will not work.

Upgrade to CR 2008 or CRVS2010 and use the CR SDK for .NET in VS .NET or an appropriate version of Delphi. See KB [1606663 - Does Crystal Reports SDK for VS .NET work with Delphi Prism?|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes_boj/sdn_oss_boj_bi/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/scn_bosap/notes%7B6163636573733d36393736354636443646363436353344333933393338323636393736354637333631373036453646373436353733354636453735364436323635373233443330333033303331333633303336333633363333%7D.do].

Last word;

In a nut shell, what you're trying to do is similar to pushing the retired space shuttle to warp speed. It ain't gonna work :)...

I understand what you're saying, Ludek, but you also need to appreciate the costs involved for a big app. The Delphi upgrade would cost much more than the reporting side. And you exaggerate - there are options.

Currently this app launches a separate indpendent 'report app' to run a report. This was cobbled together using Delphi3/CR10 RDC. One of my options would be to rewrite this in (say) Delphi 2010 or VB.NET and CR 2010, and then fix up any problems in the reports. But this too could be expensive, and with additional risks. For example, the early versions of CRXI had fatal problems with Paradox joins.

What I'm looking for is a cheaper stopgap. In the end, my client will need to bite the bullet but they are very reluctant. Note that the app runs fine otherwise.
