Hi,

just want to know what are the advantages and drawbacks of BEx and Web queries

In which scenarios we use web and where we use BEx

Need to tell to my user.

Few points which come to my mind are:

1. In Bex we have a restriction of Excel i.e 65 k + rows----

In Web there is no restriction

2. Web queries we can open anywhere with a click on hyperlink

BEx Business explorer needs to be installed to our system

can anyone help me with few other points.

thanks

Hi,

BEx Query Designer is the base for both BEx Analyzer and Web. WEB is nothing but BEx WAD

As you said, BEx has limitation of 65K rows, But if you have Excel 2010 the rows may be higher....

Hi,

1. The web query can be used without the GUI installed on the system. For Bex you need the SAP GUI installed.

2. Web queries are more performance efficient compared to Bex

3. Bex uses Excel which has a limitation of 65,536 rows where as your web query does not have that limitation.

4. The web query can be accessed from any browsing cafe also which is not the case with Bex Query.

5. In terms of overall presentation Web queries are more preferred compared to Bex

6. You can carry out required page setting in Web queries

Hi,

The limitation of BEX which you have mentioned is only till certain EXCEL levels, now as I know in EXCEL 2007 onwards that limit has been increased to 1 million.

The advantage of using BEX Analyzer is that along with the OLAP results user can combine the rich functionalities of Excel, which makes life simpler for custom calculations and other analysis but the same is not available in WEB.

In Analyzer you can create single workbook and execute multiple queries at a time, this functionality is not available with WEB reporting. This is very useful when you need to compare results from multiple queries.

In the WEB you can broadcast individual query but in case of BEX you will have to broadcast complete workbook.
