Behaviour of ODS when only key field is defined.

When we create an ODS with only a key figure and save and activate it. It gets activated without any warnings.

When I create the update rule for same ODS , an error message is generated and which says that at least one data field should exist.

Now , why am I allowed to create a ODS object without a data field , if no update rules can be defined for the same.

    Disha,

    This is my understanding.

When you create an ODS with only keyfields, this ODS is technically correct and can be used to do any 'lookups' without using it to upload data. For example, you might just want to store unique records in an ODS when your data model demands and can use it as a lookup table.

If you want to create update rules for it, then you need atleast one data field.

    Hope it helps

As far as I know, SAP says there has to be at least one key field and one data field for the correct ODS. You might be able to activate the ODS without data field, but logically it's not correct. Also if I understand correctly, you can't inludes key figures as a key fields. SAP experts correct me if I am wrong. Thank you. Hope this helps.

An ODS with only key fields is fine, just like a DB table with only key fields. You can also use it as long as it is a transactional ODS. But you cannot create update rules due to the logic of update rules where the system basically does a loop on the data fields and fills the key fields for each data field. So creating an ODS is fine, filling it via update rules doesn't work.

      Best regards

    Hi Disha,

Do you mean ODS with one primary key infoobject alone and without any data fields?

    Hi Disha,

but why do you need a key figure as a key field ?

Usually you have to put at least one (char) object as key and at least one (amount, value or something else) as data field...what's your need ?

    Bye,

    Roberto
