Technically, working with SBO is pretty straight forward.
You work through the UI API and the DI API. The UI allows you to manipulate the user interface, the DI gives you access to the business objects SBO exposes. (Sales orders, etc)
The 30 day demo CD can be obtained through an SAP partner. The 30 day demo has the SDK on it and will allow you to try out some of the example code provided on the media. This will allow you to decide if you are comfortable creating add-ons.
The next step is to decide what relationship you would like with SAP. In your case, it would require purchasing a base install of SBO and the SDK with the development mode license. It is advisable to attend an SDK training session at this point.
Once this has happened, you can further certify your applications through SAP before selling them on the market. You will have to go through a number of steps as far as getting a "namespace" and possibly certifying your app.
The main thing is that you will need to contact an SAP office to get hooked up with a local partner for starters.
I hope this helps and I am sure someone from SAP can offer further clarification of corrections if I have made a mistake.
Good luck.
