BW Portal problems

We have a report that is not working correctly. We have a report on a BW portal that users enter in the parameters for the query and the report is supposed to display on the screen .Sometimes the report shows up and sometimes it does not. The user gets the "clocking" or rotating gear like symbol and the page never returns. Sometimes they get the report within 2 or 3 minutes. We can see the processing on the back end BW system without any problems.

There are no error messages returned to the page. Log files show no timeouts or errors. The page will show the "clocking" symbol forever if you do not close the browser. We have determined that it is not a large amount of data and the portal server is not running out of memory or processes.

The best data we can find on the problem so far is that it seems to be stuck in this component:

BICS_PROV_GET_RESULT_SET.

The report runs fine every time in RSRT on back end. We are running this on BW:

SAP_BW 701 0006 SAPKW70106 SAP Business Warehouse

I can't find anything wrong on the Java WAS. The log files do not show errors when this occurs.

Where can you do BICS config? Not sure what timeout to change because there are so many. Thanks

Seems strange. You said already it is not caused by large result set. However try to see note: 1614236 - Reduzierung von BICS_CONS_GET_RSADMIN_PARAM Aufrufen

I am not sure but the message you have given seems to suggest that the issue is with the BICS configuration and the JAVA Stack in the BW system.

Check the JAVA WAS in the BW system and see if there are any issues there. You should be able to get a log for the same.

Also try changing the timeouts on the portal to force a timeout on portal.

Is your report working properly with same selection criteria if you run it in TA RSRT in BW backend?

What version of BW you are running?
