Hi,

Adhoc queries are generally used to give the flexibility to user to analyse the result as per his requirement and he will be able to drilldown on any of the free characteristics while analyzing the query output.

The another advantage is that you can include minimal characteristic in the rows section for the initial layout display so that query execution performance will be faster. The more no. of characteristics you add in rows section will degrade initial query display performance.

Bhaska,

The term ad-hoc is meant to convey that the queries will be dynamically determined.

You can achieve this by having a query with all the jey figures and then have all the characteristics in the free characteristics area - the user will then have the option of drilling down in any manner they want to.

The only downside is that you will have to train your users on how they can use ad-hoc queries to accomplish their data requirements.

Now as you know what Adhoc queries are, you can acieve this functionality by defining a naming convention for standard and adhoc queries.

In the authorization setup, create different roles for adhoc queries e.g. display/change and create access for queries starting with Y.

You will also have to decide if users who can create adhoc queries should be allowed to created CKF/RKF/Variables etc or not in production system.

Generally, it is good to give them access to create adhoc queries using with objects already present in the multiprovider without access for creating global CKFs and RKFs. instead they may create local formulas and selections. This way, they will nto be able to change anything in standard query.
