The anwser is YES. The examples employ the basic feature that don't require any features provided by the most recent SP version of the SAP Web AS.
Nonetheless, you can request the book accompanying dvd with the voucher.

I don't know the sneak preview, but the excercises in the book concerning BSP, HTMLB aren't that complicated
