Using Excel 2007 for Admin

2 queries really

In a new installation, if a user chose use Excel 2007 but we wanted to reverse before getting too far, can we do this?

When the My Documents is on a server, and using Excel 2007 we are getting an error, "Temporary file in use by another user" when editing and then processing a dimension, The file is clearly not being used by someone else the same user was doing the processing in the same session.

    Hi,

It is not advisable to have the "My documents" in a shared area. There might be lot of conflicts. It would be better if you can have your own set of this folder on your local system.

The excel version is maintained in the SQL table. You need to connect to the database server. Then expand the database of your appset. Open the table tblDefaults. You will see an entry for MEMBERSHEET_VERSION. This stores the version of excel. You can delete it or change it. I would suggest you to delete it. Then when you login to ADMIN and go to dimension sheet for the next time, it will again prompt you to select the excel version.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Lesley,

Am sorry to say that I did not understand your first question. If got right then, yes you can definitely use excel 2007 for your templates.

Second, would suggest you to login to SQL server and as mentioned in the above post and delete the entries under tblLock. Try reprocessing dimension. Hope this helps.

    Rgds,

    Poonam

I updated the MEMBERSHEET as suggested and I am now able to work successfully, so thank you.

Unsure why I cannot use 2007 especially as I am certain I installed the "AccessDatabaseEngine" to enable Excel 2007 to work without issue. Any ideas welcome on how to check installed or any other components to be installed.

    Hi,

So, this error comes only while using 2007? 2003 works absolutely fine?
