Hi All,
We completely understand that when we are upgrading oracle db we are just patching the binaries and not touching the data. But a db with higher size would definitely take longer time for the upgrade right.Thanks.
Hello Ambarish,
if you upgrade your database you are also upgrading data and structures in SYS, SYSTEM and SYSAUX (or other oracle product schema owners).
The upgrade duration does not depend on your database size - it will depend on your hardware (mainly CPU) and on your installed database components (DBA_REGISTRY). All SAP Oracle databases have usually installed the same components - so it will take nearly round about 1.5 to 2 hours.

Stefan

An Oracle upgrade wil ltouch objects from SYSTEM and SYSAUX tablespaces. the rest is mostly ignored.
so, an upgrade to a 100GB DB or 2TB DB is almost the same.

Hi Ambarish,
Database size is independent from the db upgrade runtime. This is because, upgrade process does not touch the data itself.

Hi Ambarish,
Of course, db objects will be recompiled during the upgrade. Upgrade runtime depends to your hardware. For example, my last upgrade process took approximately 2 hours, from 10g to 11g.
