Creating multiple tab reports using the same query in Web intelligence

Hi All,

I have created a Universe on a BW Query which has fields as below

AGE Depaatment Gender Grade

25 FIN M A

27 LES F A+

60 SWS M A++

Based on this data i have created a WEbi report which shows all of these data under one tab.

Now i create a new report tab in the same Webi Document by right cliicking the existing report and going to inset report and saving it.

Similarly i create two more new report tabs.

in each of these tabs i want to show data only for the concened departments.ie =1st report contains all the departments.

2nd report contains only finance data, third contains only Les data and fourth only SWs Data.

Is it possible to create this report using the same query?

Regards,

Raj.

Hi,

Create four tabs or more accordingly then go on second Tab e.g Finance Tab then select the table and apply filter on the Department objects and restrict for Finance. this tables show data only for finance and same thing you can do for more tables.

Thanks,

Amit

Hi Amit,

Thanks foryour response on this.

As per your sugestion i have created filter in report view on the column department and now it is showing for details for

finance. However it allows to drill down and also shows the LES and SWS Dep but not hte data for theseunless i select one of these. Is it this way what you recommended when you said to restrict the data?

Also when i click on modify query for the second report and try to apply filter at the query level the data for the whole of report changes ie the first tab which contained data for all the departments shows data for FIn and the second tab also shows for FIn? Is this WEbi behaviour standard?

You should use report filters, not query filters.

A query filter will affect the entire document. Every report tab that pulls data from that query will be impacted. If you start with a single report, by default it shows the data from the query. If you duplicate that report tab, then it's still attached to the first query. There are various ways to create report filters (input controls, quick filter, invoking the filter area from the toolbar) and a report filter impacts only blocks on that report tab. You can even create block filters by clicking on the block first, then creating your filter.

This is a fairly confusing bit for folks that are new to Web Intelligence.

Hi Dave,

thanks for your inputs on this.

Earlier I tried using Query filters to get the Output but it was not displaying the desired result. bcause it was affecting the entire query.I even duplicated the reports , Inserted new reports , created new Query for the new reports but it was of no use.

Finally on the report level i created new reports and then by applying filter i displayed that data.

But While using filter I get a dropdown which shows all the values of departements. Can i restrict it to only one value so that the user should be unable to change ithe value at he report level.

Hi,

Yes , you can restrict for one department also.select one value and check you are getting desired result or not.

Without edit rights on report no one can edit the report level filter.

Thanks,

Amit

Hi,

Open the webi report.

click on the column vales.e.g department values.

Click on the add filter icon (Yellow icon).

in the new window it will show you all values of department.

Select one value and click ok.

Thanks,

Amit

Hi Amit,

This is the Way in which I had restricted it to get the desired output.

What i want to know is whether the users would be able to access all the values or the one which i want to display?

Suppose I have restricted in one report for Finance, other LEs and so on.

Now in the first report Les and Sws is also displayed but i show only for finance in the filter dropdown list

Will the user be able to see the other values by going futher down the dropdownlist in the filter or only finance.

Regards,

Raj.

Hi Amit,

I understood what you meant ot say finally and used the Quick filter option and was able to display the desired output.

Earlier i was usind the regular filter as a result of which i was getting the dropdowmn box with all the values so i was bit confused.

Amit and Dave thanks both for your guideance on this.

Regards,

Raj
