char infoobject name length

Hi,

I'm working with SAP_BW 3.50 version and I try to create characteristic infoobject with name length = 11(some already created infoobjects have that name length), but the system allows me to type only 9 symbols to 'Char.' input field.

Thanks in advance,

Fiodar.

Hi Anil,

I'v tried these ways but without result.

And more, if I try to start char name from numeric (for ex. '0') system represents the warning : 'Name must start with a character ...'. But names with more than 9 symbols and started from numeric are existed in the system. Is it limitation for internal usage only or my BW version supports these constraints ? What do you think?

Thanks,

Fiodar.

Sorry, I didn't know that you meant the name of the InfoObject but the length.

InfoObject names for own InfoObjects can only have length nine. This is due to length restrictions of the generated tables and data elements. Your own InfoObjects must start with A..Z.

SAP delivers InfoObjects as part of the business content. These Objects start with a numeric (normally 0) and their allowed length is 10.

Hi Fiodar,

I remember, I had this experience in the past.

If you create infoobject from infosource mainteance screen it allows you a length.

But if you create from RSD1..It allows different length.

Try these :

Try creating infobject from

-RSA1 --Infoobject catalog

-RSA1 -Infosource maintenance..a button on toolbar

-RSD1- Infoobject maintenance.

Did you observe any difference.

Is there any conversion exit that may lead to a different output length? In the InfoObject you need to check the fields Lenght and Output Length.

Best regards
