SAP Parameters setup

Hi All,

We have recently added 32 GB memory to our SAP system as new dataload activities are going to start in it So we have been asked to tune SAP systems to use this memory so that we do not face any memory issue during data load activites.

Please suggest which paramaters we should target to use this memory.

you forgot to give us`:

OS version

SAP version

DB version.

any answer earlier is just a wild guess...

Shivam, you have been a member here for years now, you should know what info to supply when asking questions.

HI Eric,

My SAP Version is SAP BI 7.01

OS is HP-Unix

Database is Oracle 10.2.0.5

Please suggest me your recommendations in this case.

Hi,

I would increase memory-related parameters by 50%.

Hi

For dataload activities , you need to consider the amount of data and the plan of loading ( parallelism ) to determine your memory parameters .

For DB Level : Please see this Note :

830576 Parameter recommendations for Oracle 10g

For SAP Level :

There is no clear cut defination of data load memory parameters.

But if you are performing some test loads in your Quality and Dev system , then you are get a fair idea of the type of load under which your Production system is going to come under the actual data load.

Depending on errors/problems received at test load phase , you can plan a comprehensive parameter list.

Let us know your plan of action

Thanks

Hi,

According to me, you should plan to adjust your memory in two areas, i) DB parameters ii) SAP parameters.

(1) If your DB is Oracle then of course, sga_max_size and shared_pool_size should be main focus.

(2) For SAP I would recommend to increase you total number of work processes specially background ones. Apart from this, better SAP Note should be followed.

(3) [Note 192658 - Setting parameters for BW systems|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/192658]

Caution: Sometime increasing the parameters thoughtlessly may put you in problem.

One should carefully analyze previous performance issues and scenarios to catch the area where memory increment will help

Thanks.
