Is it possible to block a commodity code instead of taking it out from the config in spro?

Seems like it is not possible to block a commodity code.
We have to take it from the configuration/delete the entry maintained in 'maintain commodity code'
Check and revert back.

Looking all the source that there is no block functionality in SAP for the commodity code.
Only via deletion in system setup.
