Hi,

Message types are normally assigned to SAP document types uniquely. Their names correspond as much as possible to those of the UN/EDIFACT standard.

Examples

ORDERS for purchase oder data

INVOIC for invoice data

Along with Message type you can also use message function to further distinguish Idocs via country, region for which IDoc is coming.

"The message function is an optional parameter. If several IDoc types belong to the same message type, the unique assignments can be ensured via the message code and message function. Alternatively, the inbound processing type for IDocs from a certain partner can be defined differently via the fields for message type, message code and message function."

For example you can set

Message type "Orders", Message function "US" for an US order coming via Idoc,

Message type "orders" message function "JP" for japan orders.

You also need to mention Process code: IDoc interface uses the process code to find the business process which controls the conversion of the IDoc into the SAP document.

I hope this information helps.

Thanks,

Anupam
