"Real World" XI demo, configuring File Adapter

I think I've succesfully completed the configuration of the demo from "SAP NetWeaver in the Real World, Part III: SAP XI". I'm now at the point, on page 65, where I need to configure the File Adapter for the scenario. There is a set of configuration settings on that page, but it doesn't say exactly where to do the configuration, and I can't find the answer in the help areas.

Can anybody help me determine where to do the configuration described on page 65? Is it in an XI config screen, or is it a file on the XI server box? And what is the source directory for dropping the test file?

Thanks, Eric

    Hi Eric,

I do not have the document that you refer to but the configruation will be one of two ways depending on which version of XI you are using:

XI2.0 Uses a standalone java application which contains the runtime engine for the technical adapters such as the File adapter. to configure this type of adapter you use the host name ( if using the central adapter engine ) plus the port 8200 ( default port ).

    therefore it would be http:// : / adapter.htm

You then create a new file adapter and using teh configuratrion settings from your document set the mode etc.

XI3.0 This is done in the integration directory by configuring a communication channel. For a file adapter you will need a sender or reciever communication channel for you business system. So if you have created a business scenario in the Integration Directory and assigned your business system you just select on the communication channel node under your business system and using the context menu select new. Once in the communication channel itself you select the type of Adapter ( File/JDBC or whatever you want ) and the configuration fields will appear automatically for you to fill in. Select the direction of the adapter and you are ready to go.

    Good luck.
