for Integration testing We intend to use LMSW to pull data from production client to Integration client.

Scope is to have Asset data limited to only ONE company code. We have cross checked, Integration system has all required configurations in place, we only need Transaction and master data related to Asset Accounting.

  • Master data to include- Asset Accounting master data.
  • Transaction date to include- Asset accounting related transactions ( ex- deprecation posting, acquisition posting, scraping , transfer etc.)

In short we need a full copy of asset data from prod.

we have no time to use a standard SAP tool like

SLT/ SLO , or SAP TDMS, SNP Data Provisioning .

Any other pointers would be appreciated.

Loading master data with LSMW is of course possible.

Doing transaction data with LSMW is also possible, but...with limitations

loading historical data is usually not possible

IF you want all data for a single company code then this means basically you would need to redo all transactions from day 1 till today in the same time sequence as it was done in production. So you usually have the first problem with the posting date. Is the period open? does the transaction allow to post with a date of last year or even older? Lets make it short, with LSMW you migrate master data and balances and open items at a day X and start fresh without historical data. like it is done with a new acquisition or when you roll out your systems to some subsidiaries who have not yet been in SAP.

If you never did that then you have to create all needed LSMW objects yourself and you also need to extract the data. Real quick migration projects need a month or 3, bigger companies a half year or even 1 and half or more. System copies are done in 2 days or maybe a week. Considering LSMW to save time is certainly not going to work for you.
