SAP workflow integration with MS outlook. lotus notes

Dear SAP WF guru's,

I am a SAP workflow developer working on ECC 6.0 environment, i need your assistance in one requirement which is as follows:

Requirement: I have a workflow in R/3 which currently create the workitem in SAP inbox only, now our user wants the ability to approve/reject the workitems from their MS outlook / lotus notes. i have not much idea about the configurations and needful things for the requirement.

i have the following questions:

1. is it feasible to implement such requirement?

2. Could you please tell me the nessaray configurations required in SAP R/3 to implement the requirement?

3. please let me know the settings which i need to do in Ms outlook/ lotus notes. i am not a developer of Outlook/lotusnote applications but can ask the other developer team (outlook/ lnotes) to make changes.

please let me know the steps which we have to follow to make the requirement working.

Hi Renu,

Thanks for sharing the information, it would be really more helpfull if you can provide clarification on the following more points:

1."All emails, whether they exists in the form of Workflow notifications, Workflow Work items, or just a standard SAP Office memo, are sent out of SAP through SAP Connect". could you please tell me what settings and configurations are required for sap connect at R/3 side. it would be helpful if you can provide me the R/3 transactions codes/ names for the add-on you are mentioned.

2."It is note worthy that no approval or reply notification will be allowed from an external mail system u2013 in other words external email systems cannot respond back to SAP for security reasons." do you mean from outlook or lotus note user can not approve/ reject the work items?

we have an application running in my company where user can see the workitem details in the custom application made on portal uwl and can approve / reject the workitem from there without manually login to the SAP system. i don't know how they have implement the system.

please clarify me on the above!
