the bill of material is stored in tables MAST and STKO and STPO

if you create a subcontract PO, then SAP is using the material number and searching for the bill of material is read and the needed components are copied into RESB table.

So in general the material number is the main link to the BOM.

If you have several BOMs and use alternative BOMs for subcontracting, then you find the BOM via production versions. this field is maintained in the info record.

But the BOM becomes always PO specific, as it is copied to the PO. A change in CS02 will not effect the open PO.

You can even create a subcontract PO without having a BoM in your system, you then enter the components manually in ME21N detail material tab. then these components are stored in RESB only.

If you go to RESB Table you will get a Dependednt Reqmt. No. for the Components maintained in the Subcontracting PO which is considered during MRP Run thta this much Qty of Materials has been assigned to Subcon PO which needs to be transferred to Vendor.

In Sub contracting process you are required to send components to Vendor for processing of finished product.

While creating sub contracting po you are required to maintain components in materail tab of PO required to be sent to vendor for processing of finished product. These can be maintained in following ways :

1) Manually in the PO.

2) Automatically thru BOM of finished product.

It is Item Category "L" at PO Line Item level which asks for BOM fo the material at that line item and this decides the PO as Subcontracting PO.

Subcontracting PO:

Sending materials to the subcontractor for any further processing or assembling with item category L PO has been created.

BOM:

Bill of Materials is used in production to get a finished product from the list of materials required to prodcue.

The link is we are sending the list of child materials to the subcontractor by using BOM.

IN subcontracting PO,U suppply the child parts & receive the parent part

That is u supply multiple components & receive them as single piece.

So u have to create BOM with parent material in CS01 & give the subcomponents

while creating PO u have enter L in item category & parent material.the BOM will explode showing the child parts
