Crystal Reports Viewer 2011 - where is it

Former Member

Hello,

Page 384 of the Crystal Reports 2011 user guide states that there is a viewer for Crystal Reports v2011. I've searched this forum and the regular web site, but can't find it. I looked for it on the download page, but didn't see it

I did find a link for the viewer for cr2008 http://www.businessobjects.com/forms/crystalreports/viewer/, but not the viewer for the 2011 version.

I'm hoping that somone can give me the link for the 2011 version.

Thank you

Tracy

Hi Again Tracy,

Again I'll have to ask the PM's what the line up is for CRV 2011.

Remember, BOE 4.0 is still in it's ramp up stage so not all parts are available or released to the public at this time....

Thanks again

Hi Don,

I'm confused about this "ramp up". I thought cr2011 was available for sale to the public. To me that means that it's out of beta. I get the feeling that I'm partially right - meaning that cr2011 is available to buy, but it is still in beta. Am I close? If not, please let me know what I'm not understanding.

When will cr2011 be out of ramp up mode? At that time, will there be an uupdate to the software?

Thank you

Tracy

Hi Tracy,

It's changes and the way SAP releases Product. All it really is is a different terminology. This way has it good and bad side effects....

The good is the product gets out to the public for testing and finding all of the bugs, the bad is there are bugs as there typically is with any new software release.

So even though I called it Ramp Up Mode, and it's actually for the main Business Objects Enterprise 4.0, it's still fully supported. Any issues found for this version can be escalated even from Forum Posts. What they have done for BOE 4.0 is give it to some of our Strategic Partners who are implementing it into their main Production Systems and resolving any issues that our QA test department did not find.

When I called it post Beta it's really just another step in finding any issues before the final package is made for all Public access. CR 2011 is standalone and is simplified.

There are actually a lot of differences in BOE 4.0, you can read about them on the [BI page|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/bi]. There is a Java Report Designer, changes to Universes, lot's of changes to the back end of BOE, a new Connection Server which handles all of the database connectivity for Report Objects.

Technically it's out now with SP 2 being available I believe, and I am still trying to get it on this SDN download page.... [SP1|https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100007683092011E/cr2011sp1.exe] is available now.

Sorry for the confusion... It's more changes in terminology than anything else, It's still Crystal Reports.... Just not complete as legacy version used to be but that too for this version is due to changes in the platform and how we release product now...

Thanks again

Hi Don,

Thank you for the link. Can is be installed on the trial version?

OK, I think I "get" it. Ramp up is only for BOE 4.0 and not the stand alone CR2011, which is what I am testing.

Not that you don't have enough to do, but you should become the official spokesperson for CR2011.

When my trial version is up, can I purchase and upgrade for CR2011, as I own CRXI and CR2008?

No problem. You didn't confuse me, just the opposite.

Thanks again

Hi Tracy,

I believe you can apply patches to Trial versions. Contact Sales I'm sure you qualify for and upgrade version.

LOL... I'll let Product know I have a vote...

Thanks again

Hi Don,

Yes, I should qualify for the upgrade. The problem may be that I have cr2008 installed on an old laptop and I plan to install CR2011 on my newest laptop. Usually, ugrades require you to have the old version installed on the computer that you want to install the upgrade on.

I've looked high and low for the CD and/or key, but can't find either. I did find my key for Xcelsius 2008 though, when the time comes.

Never a dull moment.

LOL

Hi Tracy,

Call Sales, if you run License Manager you can get part of the keycode, part of it is encrypted now so they may be able to look you up.

I'm not sure, I have not tried it in a while but if you use a Full build of CR 2011 and the upgrade key it may install. Download the Trial version and then install using the upgrade key to see if that works.

Good luck

Don

PS - Jackie tells me there are new demo Reports and they have been updated with new data sources... I have not looked at them yet... It's the ones from the Start Page in the Designer....

Hi Don,

I ordered the cr2011 upgrade earlier today. If I can't find my cr2008 key, I do know where the CRXI software is, so I could use that.

I did download the new reports that you told me about. Thank you. I must have done something wrong because I couldn't get to the database that the reports are based on. The report was pointing to

C:\Users\I818656\Desktop\cr_xi_xtreme_rep_smpl_en\en\Samples\Databases\xtreme.mdb

the report that I viewed that used this database hadinvoice dates from 2003 and 2004, so I don't think that this db has been updated.

or

C:\Users\I818656\Desktop\dunning letters\xtreme_withXMLtbls.mdb

this database had at least one table with data from 2010, so this may be the new database.

Thank you

Hi Don,

Did the PM get back to you about the report viewer for CR2011 yet?

Let me know, thanks

Hi Tracy,

They are still discussing, we originally wanted to release it standalone but because it's hooked into BOE 4.0 it can' t be released until it goes GA which we still don't have a specific date for.

Possibly October or November but that's just a guess from me... All I can say is to watch the download page and BI home page.

Thanks again

Don

And regarding the sample report data source updates Is see now Jackie just said they would be updated soon... I assumed it would have been asap but apparently soon does not mean now... lol

Try again in a week or so... or if I get notified I'll let you know...

Thanks

Don

Hi Don,

I agree with you. The viewer should be released, even if its a beta uh...... ramp up product, by itself.

Okay, I see that I need to send a letter to the CEO demanding that you be promoted to CIO or at the very least that a new position be created called CIO of Crystal Reports and Dashboard Design development and production. Does that work for you?

Ok, at least I know that I found the right files, just that they were updated yet.

LOL "to files being updated - soon".

Ok, I will check the home page for updates, but I think we have different homes pages. Things you've told me were there, I never saw, but it's okay, 'cause you are here holding the forums down and I really appreciate all of your work.
