perhaps it would help if you could tell us what business content you're referring to. i'm assuming, of course, you're referring to business content for BW and R/3. in which case, data extraction for business content occurs via these steps:
- setup of business content datasources in r/3
- activation of business content infoobjects and infoproviders in bw
- replication of datasources in bw
- creation of transfer rules and infopackages in bw
- execution of master data infopackages in bw
- populate setup tables in r/3 (via tcode SBIW)
- execution of transactional infopackages in bw
i don't have a specific document for you to use, though, but the documentation helps quite a bit with knowing how things work. hope this helps somewhat.
I am talking about the business content objects in R/3, which i want to extract from/into BW.

let me try to answer your questions to the best of my knowledge. try checking out this site and the SAP service marketplace for more documents that will help you with your concerns. you could also try taking a few lessons in SAP Academy, or getting a copy of their books. winks
btw, my "guide" deals with BW 3.1, since that's what we're using here, so my instructions may vary in some form or another.
1- do the ff. steps in R/3 to activate the BC datasources:
- run RSA9 and setup the application component hierarchy
- run RSA5 and select the business content datasources you want to use
2- your datasources provide the structure from which BW will pull data from R/3, but you need to activate the BC "containers" that these datasources will populate, so you'll go and activate the BC infosources and infoproviders. do the ff. steps in BW:
- run RSA1, and go to the Modeling screen, and then go to the Source System option
- create your connection to your R/3 system here (i can't remember the details, but it does entail maintaining an RFC connection)
- right-click the newly-created source system and click "Replicate Datasources"
6- for the transactional tables, you'll need to do some populating on R/3. for example, if you activate the billing extractors, you'll have to populate its setup table before extracting from it. i can't go too specific here since there are a lot of ways to go about this, but just try going to the "Settings for Application-specific Datasources" by running SBIW in R/3. the Logistics option is what i used in our setup.
