Hi,
Before SSIS it was called as DTS Package
Set of actions need to happen in a series at given time interval (Daily,weekly,monthly..) with a complex business process. Which are like more complex Jobs schedulabale.
Below are some key steps required by business
1) Control the process flow of stepsu2014Process execution plan will be controlled like sequential, loop it based on condition checks, add certain tasks, declare some variables to use in the package etc...
2) Controls the Data flowu2014(ETL) Extract the data apply any conversion / transformation logic is required based on source and target data and load it.
3) Trigger based on certain action ( Event Based)
4) Send E-mail at the end of the process to the specified users
5) Reuse the same package across applications
SSIS helps you in achieving this.
Different technologies call the same with different names. In SAP, we call them process chains. Hope this helps.
Thank You,
Hanu

Hi Sowmya,
SSIS packages are the packages which are created in the SQL server which is the back-end of BPC MS versions. It is not present in BPC NW version as the we have BI as back-end in NW version and we use not SSIS packages but the process chains to run packages.
We use our BPC functions in the SQL server. You need to go to SAP Business Intelligence Development Studio -> MS SSIS folder and create or select packages there itself. You can run these package to load transactional data, master data or copy or move or delete data.

Hope this resovles your query.
