Is there a mean to simply hide a characteristic in a cube?
That is, keep it but rendering it invisible for BEx reporting so that users don't even know its existence.
Thxs.

I guess what you want is that users don't see the caracteristic in the bex designer. I don't know how to do that. But with authorization, you can make sure they do NOT run a query with some caracteristics.
If what you want is to hide a caracteristic in reports (bex, web), just don't select it as free in the query designer.
Otherwise clarify your question.

The goal is to 'de-activate' so to speak some characteristics of a cube whithout changing the logical/physical data modeling.
On the other hand, if one is using a MultiCube, I guess that the impact of removing those characteristics is low.
Thxs for your feedback.

I've done this quite successful. Create a multiprovider with only one cube in it and restrict it to the fields you'd like to provide. You can even change dimension assignment and texts to help the users understand the modelling. It also helps to restrict access to restricted and calculated key figures.
