We have a production installation of DI Server that has been installed from the 2004 pl 1 media. The DI Server returns error messages for certain SOAP calls that work fine on a development installation (for which the DI Server has been reinstalled from the 2004 pl 4 media).
It seems to me that the errors could be fixed by upgrading to a newer version of DI Server. However, while testing the upgrade in my development environment, I was unable to do the upgrade with a partial uninstall/install. Instead, I had to remove server tools completely and reinstall them from the newer media. This seemed to work without problems: for instance the licenses of the license server were still intact after the upgrade.
Before doing the upgrade in the production environment, I wish ask if someone can confirm that the upgrade can be done safely by uninstalling server tools and reinstalling them - without causing problems with licenses etc.
Regards,
Henry
Hi Henry,
I cannot give you a guarantee that everything will work properly, but except in builds around October - when the license key name for the SAP Add-Ons had been changed I never encountered any issues when removing / reinstalling the Server Tools - and I did it a lot since June 2004 to be sure to have the latest bug-fixes
I suppose you will run DB + application backups (Server Tools etc.) before you run the upgrade...
Maybe you should ask SAP Support to be prepared that you might need their assistance?
Regards,
Frank
