    in an upgrade, you do not have to activate new business content.

    it's only if you have new projects (new scope, eg datamining, new areas...) that you might want to use new content.

    Your BI Content release may affect the 3.5 release you need to install and the upgrade procedure. If you are on BW 3.1 you need to upgrade to BW 3.3 before you can upgrade to BW 3.5.2. They wanted to change this with 3.5.3 but you need to check the latest installation guides.

    Your installed BI content does not affect the upgrade.
